What is the Role?
Reporting to our VP of Business Integrity, we are seeking a seasoned privacy attorney to serve as Director of Privacy and Data Governance. This position is ideal for a strategic and collaborative subject matter expert with experience leading a team of attorneys. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic, fully distributed global enterprise and foster the continued development of its global privacy program. What You Will Be Doing:
Lead the Privacy and Data Governance program, providing strategic direction and insights to support a business-forward, innovative and risk-based approach.
Lead a team of three skilled privacy professionals who are tasked with the operation of Elastic’s privacy processes and controls.
Advise senior management and other stakeholders on privacy and data protection-related matters, including strategies for mitigating privacy related risks, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and best practices regarding data governance.
Foster privacy compliance and awareness across the company, including in product development, procurement, HR, finance, legal, sales, marketing, and other areas.
Collaborate cross-functionally to develop and implement a risk-based AI governance framework relating to Elastic’s use of AI within its operations.
Maintain subject matter expertise in applicable foreign and domestic regulations pertaining to privacy, data governance, AI, and data security and how they impact Elastic’s operations or products.
Support the product, customer-facing and supplier-facing legal teams with legal advice related to privacy, security, and data governance-related contract terms.
Advise on cybersecurity-related inquiries, audits, and incidents.
What You Bring:
Candidates must have at least 8 years of legal experience specific to privacy, with preference for those who also have at least 3 years of in-house experience in a managerial role.
Candidates must have experience overseeing the operational aspects of a privacy and data governance program.
Candidates must be able to solve complex legal and business challenges that have significant impact on the organization by anticipating potential legal issues, offering solutions and leading execution of those solutions.
Candidates must successfully communicate complex legal concepts and strategies to senior management, fostering alignment between legal decisions and business strategy.
Candidates must be proactive, able to exercise independent judgment, and work effectively on cross-functional teams.
Candidates must demonstrate a strong sense of ownership and be comfortable in a dynamic and evolving environment.
Candidates must exhibit excellent judgment, character, and professional integrity.
Candidates must be actively licensed to practice law.
Compensation for this role is in the form of base salary. This role does not have a variable compensation component.
The typical starting salary range for new hires in this role is listed below. In select locations (including Seattle WA, Los Angeles CA, the San Francisco Bay Area CA, and the New York City Metro Area), an alternate range may apply as specified below.
These ranges represent the lowest to highest salary we reasonably and in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the ranges may be modified in the future.
An employee's position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
Elastic believes that employees should have the opportunity to share in the value that we create together for our shareholders. Therefore, in addition to cash compensation, this role is currently eligible to participate in Elastic's stock program. Our total rewards package also includes a company-matched 401k with dollar-for-dollar matching up to 6% of eligible earnings, along with a range of other benefits offered with a holistic emphasis on employee well-being.
